I just read the sweetest -- and most surprising -- adoption story this morning. It starts with a social worker named Danny finding an abandoned baby in a subway station. He calls his boyfriend right away. "I found a baby! I called 911, but I don't think they believed me. No one's coming. I don't want to leave the baby alone." Danny's boyfriend, Peter Mercurio, ran to meet him and flag down a cab. Three months later, Danny showed up at family court to explain how he found the baby. Peter was flabbergasted when the judge asked Danny, out of the blue, "Would you be interested in adopting this baby?" A gay social worker living with his penniless boyfriend and a roommate?
