Not even four days old yet, and little Blue Ivy Carter has racked up more controversy than a Kardashian can in an entire year. From her name to how she was born, she has been baptized by drama, and there's been a fiery backlash at Beyonce and Jay-Z for just how they brought her into the world.
From her scheduled c-section, which irritated proponents of vaginal births, to her diva-like ways that included renting out entire hospital wing for $1.3 million, with all the reports being bandied about, Beyonce hasn't won many points for mom of the year. Throw in the "fact" that her high security needs actually prevented other families from seeing their own newborns, and there has been some downright nasty backlash being sent Beyonce's way.
Only now, she says none of what's been reported is true.
In a statement, the couple shot down the notion that she had a c-section, and stated that Blue Ivy was "delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs." I suppose a surrogate could have delivered her naturally, but that's a whole other rumor.
The hospital stood up against the rest of the allegations and issued a statement saying the rumor that they paid $1.3 million for an entire floor "is simply not true." Lenox Hill Hospital Executive Director Frank Danza went on to say:
The family is housed in an executive suite at the hospital and is being billed the standard rate for those accommodations. Our executive suites are available for any patient, including the food service and amenities provided to the Carter family.
He also said everything was done to cause the least amount of disruption to the other patients as well and that no one was prohibited from seeing their babies because of the famous birth.
No security plan that we or the Carters' security team put in place would have prevented or delayed families from gaining access to the NICU, and to date, no families have complained to the hospital about being denied access to the NICU.
I suppose if I was skeptical, I could think this is just a bunch of quick public relations cleanup. That anyone can lie, and if you have enough cash you can get anyone to say the right things. But I really want to believe they're telling the truth.
It is hard to believe I suppose that such a private person like Beyonce would actually have labored in front of all the nurses and doctors who could run to a tabloid any minute. But I want to think that for this once-in-a-lifetime event she put any of those fears aside, and just did what she thought was best for her baby, tabloids be damned.
So until someone comes up with some hard evidence -- a picture of her c-section scar perhaps -- that they're not speaking the truth, I'm going to choose to believe the best about their birth experience and about them. Because really when it comes to something as beautiful as bringing a new life into the world, it's a pretty good time to give the benefit of the doubt.
