Last month for Snooki and Jionni's son Lorenzo's first birthday, the family threw him a lavish pirate-themed party in New Jersey. And just this past weekend, there was a second equally decadent event in Poughkeepsie, New York, to celebrate little Lorenzo turning 1 complete with pony rides, a bouncy house, a cotton candy making machine, and a photo booth set up with costumes for the guests.
There was another cake and another rendition of "Happy Birthday to Lorenzo!" I think it's one of the sweetest things ever to go all out for your child's first birthday. We should all do it.
Okay so not all of us have the kind of money Snooks has to drop on a child's first birthday party, especially with the cost of diapers nowadays (cloth or sposies!). But not every party has to be as costly. Get crafty! Head to an outdoor park and have a potluck picnic. Just celebrate in a big way.
I've heard some families skipping the first birthday because they feel a little 12-month-old isn't going to remember the party anyway so why bother? I think we should bother because the birthday is just as much about the child as it is about the parents. Have fun. Make memories. Take tons of photos. Have a pony so mom and baby can trot around like Snooki and Lorenzo did. Bake a cake -- bake two! Have multiple parties in different areas so all your family and extended family can share in the celebrations. Having a baby is one of the most amazing things ever -- we should celebrate that child's birth over and over and over again if that's what we want to do.
I like Snooki's style. Maybe not her actual fashion style (and we'll see about her dancing style tonight on Dancing With the Stars). But I do like her parenting style. She's not afraid to spoil her child ... and herself in the process. After all, baby is only going to have a first birthday once.
