A big milestone for new parents is their first night out without baby. For my husband and me, I think it was around 3 1/2 to 4 months when we went around the corner for a relaxed dinner, just the two of us. It was great. We laughed, had a glass of wine, ate an interrupted meal, reconnected. But something funny happened. And I have a feeling the same thing happens to most parents on their first night out without baby.
Here are the 9 stages new parents go through on their first night out alone.
At first, you're like, "Woo-hoo! This is going to be awesome! It's like old times!"
And then you're like, "Do you think everything's okay with the baby? Are we scarring her for life by going out?"
And you decide that everything's okay and enjoy your glass of wine, like a lady.
But then you're like, "I'm just going to leave my phone out, in case I can't hear it. Do you think my phone is working? Can you call me?"
And then you're like, "Relax, self! Everything's fine! I'm just going to fill up on this delicious bread."
And then you start wondering what the baby's up to.
And then you start looking at pictures of the baby on your phone.
And then you start rushing through the meal, because OMG! You just left your baby!
And then you get home and everything's fine and you're like, "That was fun. We should do that more often."
What was your first night out like?
