Talk about having a supremely sweet Mother's Day treat! Sarah Thistlethwaite just gave birth to two little miracles: rare "mono mono" twins who shared the same placenta and amniotic fluid sac -- something that only happens in one in every 10,000 pregnancies. These little cuties were actually born holding hands. How precious!
The Ohio mom spent two months on bedrest before having a C-section delivery. She knit while being hooked up to monitors for a grueling 20 hours a day -- I mean, can you even imagine? Monoamniotic, or "mono mono" pregnancies are quite risky because there's a chance the babies' umbilical cords could become entangled inside the mother's womb. Assuming she isn't the coolest of cucumbers, I'm guessing Sarah probably felt a multitude of strong emotions, including fear, anxiety, and hope.
But it was all worth it. Identical twin girls Jenna and Jillian were born holding hands like BFF's and were able to join their 15-month-old brother, Jaxon, in wishing their mom a very happy holiday. Jenna weighed a little over 4 pounds when she was born, and Jillian weighed 3 pounds, 13 ounces. Since they were born prematurely, both will have to spend between 2 and 4 weeks in the hospital.
But the important thing is that they are healthy and on their way to joining their new family at home. The bond between Jillian and Jenna must be strong as nails, considering their unique start, and I'm betting they will grow up finishing each other's sentences and protecting one another for the rest of their lives.
