Before becoming a parent, you likely have a lot of ideas about the way things will be. But, you can't truly know what to expect until your child is born. That's why a new dad, Imgur user JoltJones, wrote an entire list of 20 things he wishes someone had told him about fatherhood. The proud papa took to the social media site two days ago to share his wisdom, along a close-up photo of his hand and his baby's foott, and it's going viral, because it's that darn relatable.

"Lessons of a brand new dad, to other soon to be dads," he prefaced the post, before going into a list of 10 things he's learned since the birth of his son, Jack, on December 14. The first item on the list? Babies are strong as shit. No doubt he learned that trying to wrangle his son through a first diaper change.

He also warns dads that they're for sure going to cry -- "Deal with it," he writes. Then, he tells them to set boundaries with the grandparents early on and "go to bat" for the new mom. "She’s gonna do some tough shit that’s gonna be nothing short of badass, and emotions can and will get the better of her," he adds. "You’re the gate keeper."

The response to the father's candid, all-too-real post has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive. And for that, he felt the need to update the post with a thank-you. "I’ve been reading the comments on this all day, and when we had the time, sharing them with my wife. I know that most of the people who commented probably won’t see this but the outpouring of love, support and occasional 'f*** you' you really has been humbling," he wrote. "As a long time lurker this all means a lot to me. And some small clarification, I never wanted to sound like I thought this was sage advice that must be heeded since now that I’ve been a father for 72 hours I’m a pro... actually I just felt like sharing, and the response that I’ve received has been more than amazing."

Cheers to this awesome brand-new dad and mom for doing what they can to prep soon-to-be parents for the realities of those first few days of parenthood. No doubt that as the post continues to make its way across the internet, their lessons will come in handy for more than a few grateful parents.
