This Week's Secret:
My baby is now nearly 6 months old, and she is so cute, round, dimply, and adorable, but she does almost nothing. Sure, she coos and laughs and it's cute, but when I thought of parenthood, I thought of parks and activities and birthday parties and fun. My baby is as happy at Target as she is at Disney World. Am I a terrible mom for finding her kind of dull? I love her, obviously, but I can't wait until she is older and can do things. — Anonymous
You aren't alone. Look around any park or playground and you will see at least one mom trying to swing a newborn in the baby swings. All parents feel a bit like this, I think. You wait nine long months to be a parent, you look at families all around, and you expect parenting to be one thing and then it's something entirely different. But don't rush it.
All of parenting happens in phases. As fun as the older phase is, I also kind of miss the baby phase. They are much more portable and cuddly. In other words, don't rush it. Your park time will come before you know it and you may miss this stage more than you realize.
Do you have any advice for this mom?
