That's a lot of baby! A baby has recently been born in China weighing a whopping 16 pounds. The baby boy has reportedly been nicknamed Xiao Pang, which means "Little Fatty." Hey, that's not nice. The baby came into the world via Cesarean, and can ya blame her?! He believed to the the biggest baby ever born in China. But this does not mean he has to become a Sumo wrestler! Of course, there's little chance he will grow up to be a jockey.
Xiao Pang is two pounds heavier than 14-pound JJ Brandon, who was born in the U.S. in 2013, and one pound 8.4 ounces heavier than the heaviest baby born in the U.S. last year,Isaiah Lawrence Johnson, who came in at 14 pounds 7.6 ounces. In January, a tiny mom in California gave birth to Andrew Jacob Cervantez, who weighed in at 15 pounds, 2 ounces.
The average weight for a baby in America is 7 pounds, 7.54 ounces.
The last "huge" baby born in China was 15.5 pounds. Babies' birthweights in China is generally lower than that of the U.S.
Reportedly, there has been a rise of "Big Baby Syndrome" -- or macrosomia -- in most developed nations. Experts believe it may have something to do with rising obesity rates and a mother's poor diet. It's also thought it can be caused by gestational diabetes.
The largest baby ever recorded was a Canadian baby born in 1879 and weighing 23lb 12oz. Can you imagine?! This was before Cesareans! Unfortunately, the baby died just 11 hours later.
Congrats to Little Fatty's parents -- I hope they rename him something nicer. Besides, there's nothing "little" about him!
